Abstract The academic database market is dominated by a few publishers, and it is difficult for new publishers to develop new markets, which leads to monopoly in the academic database market. This paper describes four issues of academic database monopoly, which are the irrationality of database pricing, the abuse of database permissions, the concentration of operators and the restriction on users, and proposes to deal with database monopoly through open access, library association and legislative protection.
